Community Development Officer |
The Community Development Officer (CDO) reports to the Shoal Lake Regional Community Development Corporation (CDC). The CDO provides leadership and advisory assistance in community economic development activities in the Town and Rural Municipality of Shoal Lake.
Major Responsibilities:
1. The CDO will work with individual clients and community groups by:
Researching and analyzing community economic development needs and goals;
Assisting the CDC in developing a strategic plan with input from all appropriate stakeholders;
Researching and assessing development ideas and proposals;
Providing business counseling and general business information;
Preparing proposals and applications to attract funding for community projects;
Assisting in developing business plans;
Acting as a liaison between entrepreneurs and financing organizations, including the Shoal Lake Community Works Loans Program and the Young Entrepreneur Program;
Making presentations to groups on the activities of the CDC as required;
Being informed of government funding and loan programs that could be of assistance to community development initiatives;
Developing and maintaining community development information sources and contacts;
Providing potential investors and others not living in the community with information about business, investment and relocation opportunities;
Carrying out advertising, marketing and promotion for the area;
Communicating with other economic development stakeholders in the community and region;
Maintaining confidentiality as required by clients and the CDC.
2. The administrative responsibilities of the CDO will include:
Attending meetings of the CDC, presenting reports to keep the CDC informed about various operations and programs, and preparing, distributing, and keeping minutes of CDC meetings;
Providing support to subcommittees including organizing meetings, distributing relevant information and material, and preparing, distributing, and keeping minutes of meetings;
Receiving correspondence and ensure timely response to all requests of the community development office;
Completing all reports required by funding partners;
Supervising the CAP Sites in Shoal Lake and Oakburn
Hiring, training, and supervising community development staff as approved within the CDC's budget
3. The financial responsibilities of the CDO will include:
Working with the CDC to develop an annual operating budget;
Ensuring that all accounting and financial records are maintained as required by the CDC and other funding agencies;
Ensuring that all bills are paid in a timely manner;
Soliciting funding for community development activities from government agencies, the private sector, and other appropriate sources.
